First: does this even apply to you?
The law has applied since 28 June 2025 and bites where services are provided to consumers through a website or app — shops, bookings, customer portals. Micro-enterprises under ten employees and two million euros in turnover are exempt. Many who worry fall under the exemption. Some who do not worry, do not.
The standard is a list, not a matter of taste
Testing runs against EN 301 549 and WCAG 2.1 level AA. It specifies how much contrast text needs, that everything must be keyboard reachable, that form fields carry labels. Verifiable criteria, not opinion.
How an audit works
Automated tools find roughly half. The rest is manual: once through the whole site using only the keyboard, spot checks with a screen reader, measuring contrast. You get a list of findings, severity and estimated effort — and decide yourself what gets fixed.
The side effect few people mention
The same clean markup a screen reader needs is also read by search engines and AI systems. Anyone wanting to appear in AI answers today cannot avoid clean HTML anyway. One effort paying into three accounts.
Proof instead of claims
This site is built to WCAG 2.1 AA and an automated check runs on every release. If it fails, nothing ships. In a field where many offer accessibility and few deliver, that is the only proof that counts.
